Articles on traveling and tourist destinations in Texas is coming right up!

Nov 18, 2013 - There is no time to be moody at Moody Gardens

Sure, the name sounds ominous, but in actual fact, this popular tourist attraction is an educational venue that features a golf course and a hotel. Located in Galveston, Texas, you can easily get to Moody Gardens by rental bus, coach bus and chartered bus.

Moody Gardens is actually a non-profit destination that uses nature to educate visitors on conservation and wildlife, and at the same time serves as a pleasurable destination of sorts. The main theme of Moody Gardens is pyramids. There are three main pyramid attractions here; the Aquarium Pyramid, the Rainforest Pyramid and the Discovery Pyramid.

The Aquarium Pyramid is a large blue colored pyramid that spans about 12 stories high. You can view huge pools that house more than 10,000 marine life here from fishes to sharks, seals and even waddly penguins. It is really cool how each regions of the sea are represented here, being North Pacific, South Pacific, South Atlantic and the Caribbean regions.

For something totally different, head over next to the Rainforest Pyramid in Moody Gardens. This pyramid contains tropical plants and animals, even birds, butterflies and reptiles - a myriad of rainforest animals to bring visitors closer to these stunning wildlife. This clear pyramid is 10 stories high with multilevel rainforest ecosystem. This rainforest focuses on educating its visitors on conservation and future breeding programs for rare and endangered animals. There are also more than 1,000 species of exotic plants featured here to showcase the diversity of the rainforest environment. There are a few different types of rainforest built here - Asia, Africa and America. They are each featured through the well-known bat caves, thundering waterfalls and Mayan Ruins.

For science-oriented exhibits and activities, head on to the Discovery Pyramid. This structure is deep pink in color and features travelling exhibits as well as a motion simulator. You can even play instruments and sing karaoke in interesting exhibits that highlight the science and math behind producing soundwaves.

For something a little more uppity, you can head over to Moody Gardens Golf Course. The new course was designed by Peter Jacobsen from Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design. The design was interestingly done as Jacobsen was to keep the original historical features of the course, yet at the same time having to improve certain holes and the flow of the course. Even if you are a professional or an amateur, you would enjoy this course that has 5 sets of tees with the par 72 course measuring 6,900 yards from the back tees.

If you have extra time, try not to miss visiting Palm Beach which is also located at Moody Gardens. There is a lazy river, tall tower slides, refreshing fresh water lagoons and even a splash pad area for children. Don’t want to get wet? You can instead opt to try out Moody Garden’s RideFilm Theater, MG 3D Theater, 4D Special FX Theater or a lazy evening in a paddle cruise boat.
